Tree trimming is essential in maintaining your tree’s health. There are also recommended times to cut, techniques on cutting and cuts that should be completely avoided.

In the DFW metroplex, many of our customers are subject to HOA restrictions. This generally means the trees need to be routinely maintained and not pose a risk. Often we see techniques that should NOT be used when trimming your trees. Most commonly, the “lion’s tail” effect, which is when the inner foliage is removed. This causes instability and increases the risk of limbs snapping when there are high wind speeds. Hazardous limbs pose a significant threat to people and property. Tree topping is also a method that is harmful. Leaving these stubs make them vulnerable to disease and pest infestations. The tree is unable to grow a healing boundary that essentially seals its wounds. These become a safety hazard as they rot and can come down on their own. Hiring a Certified Arborist can help prevent these concerns and ensure your trees remain an investment and not a risk.
