Tree pruning vs Tree trimming, is there a difference? What is the best time to prune trees?

Tree pruning is a more precise, science-based practice focused on improving a tree's long-term health, structure, safety, and growth by selectively removing specific branches. Tree trimming, on the other hand, generally refers to cutting back branches to improve appearance, provide clearance from structures, roads, or utilities, or maintain a desired size and shape. While both involve removing branches, proper pruning follows arboricultural standards and considers how every cut will affect the tree for years to come.
