Stump Grinding for Backyards & Tight Access

Our Vermeer SC30TX is a compact, track-driven stump grinder designed to access areas larger equipment may not reach. That makes it especially useful for backyard stumps, fenced properties and tighter residential spaces around Fort Worth.

In our inspection and estimation process, we check:

  • Gate and access width

  • Stump diameter

  • Nearby fences, structures, windows, and cars

  • Irrigation and utilities

  • Surface roots

  • Required grinding depth

  • If the grindings will be left or if you want them hauled away

What Our Stump Grinding Service Offers

Stump Grinding Below Grade

The stump is ground below the surrounding soil level so it no longer interferes with mowing, landscaping or normal use of the yard.

Surface Root Grinding

Large visible surface roots can often be ground where needed. Root grinding should be discussed beforehand because underground roots can extend far beyond the stump.

Stump Grindings Left On Site

Wood chips and grindings can be left in the area for the homeowner to use as needed.

Debris & Grinding Removal

If needed, we can discuss beforehand removing excess stump grindings if they aren't covered in our baseline stump grinding estimate.

Have several stumps?

Have several stumps on your property? We can grind multiple stumps during the same visit, and it’s often much more cost-effective to take care of them all at once. By reducing extra travel, setup, and mobilization time, we can usually offer a better overall value than scheduling each stump separately.

How Much Does Stump Grinding Cost in Fort Worth?

What determines the price? Do all stump grinding quotes contain the same basic job scope of work?

No. This is one of the most important things to understand when comparing stump grinding quotes.

One company may be quoting a simple “grind and go” service, while another may be including additional grinding, cleanup, removal of excess material above ground level, or surrounding surface roots. A lower quote isn't always for the same finished result.

At Case Tree Service, our baseline stump grinding service includes grinding the main stump, addressing accessible surface roots, removing a reasonable amount of grindings and mulch that remain above the surrounding ground level (If the volume is substantial and would require more funding for a full haul-off we will discuss it with you beforehand), and cleaning up the surrounding work area. We want the finished result to look intentional—not like the machine was simply loaded up and driven away.

Why Do We Typically Have a $200 Minimum?

Our minimum stump grinding charge is typically $200, even for smaller stumps. That's because the time spent actually grinding the stump is only one part of the job.

A stump that takes just 20 minutes to grind can still produce three or four trash cans worth of shredded wood and mulch. Loading the grinder, traveling to the property, grinding, cleaning up, hauling excess material, returning, and unloading can turn a 20-minute on-site job into an hour and a half of total time.

Can Multiple Stumps Be Included in the Minimum Charge?

Yes. Our pricing is based largely on the estimated time and work involved, not simply the number of stumps.

For example, 10 very small, easily accessible stumps could potentially cost about the same as one medium-sized stump if the overall grinding and cleanup time is similar. Accessibility, property location, estimated grinding time, surface roots, and cleanup requirements all factor into the final quote.

This is also why having several stumps handled during the same visit can be much more cost-effective than scheduling them separately.

Hiring Us Can Cost Less Than DIY

Comparable commercial-style stump grinders from places like Home Depot or Sunbelt can cost several hundred dollars to rent before taxes, fees, insurance and transportation. Also, with a DIY project if utilities, fencing, or irrigation gets damaged either you, or your homeowners policy are on the hook.  For jobs near our typical $200 minimum, having us handle the grinding and cleanup can actually cost less than renting the machine and doing it yourself plus, you'd be covered on our insurance. If you have questions involving pricing,  In many cases, sending us a few clear photos of the stump and surrounding access can help us provide an initial and relatively accurate estimate quickly.

When comparing stump grinding prices, compare the scope of work—not just the number at the bottom of the quote. Doing this can save you hours of work, or save you from a post project landscape that looks worse and is less functional than if the stump was still there. Sometimes the difference can be as low as $50.

Stump grinding prices can vary based on the size and species of the stump, access to the property, the amount of root flare or surface roots, grinding depth, and how much cleanup is included. On average, we usually see stumps between $200- $400 in Fort Worth. It's important to know what the quotes you are getting include.

Our Stump Grinding Process From Start to Finish

1

Estimate & Inspection

A clear photo of the stump and surrounding area is often enough for an estimate. Before grinding, we confirm stump size, access, visible roots, nearby obstacles, and any known utilities in the work area.

2

Access & Setup

3

Grind the Stump & Surface Roots

We position the grinder safely and prepare the surrounding work area as needed.

We grind the main stump below the surrounding grade and address accessible visible surface roots.

4

Cleanup & Finish

We clean the work area and remove stump grindings as discussed before arrival.

5

 Final Walk-Through

Before we leave, we make sure you’re happy with the finished result and answer any final questions.

What Happens After the Stump Is Ground?

After grinding, we clean the surrounding area and remove excess stump grindings above ground level within reason, based on what was discussed before arrival. The remaining material will settle naturally and the area can then be prepared for sod, grass seed, landscaping, or other future use.

If you plan to plant another tree, our ISA Certified Arborist can help determine whether the same location is suitable, what species would be a good fit, and whether additional soil preparation is recommended before planting.

If you notice any issues with the grind after we leave, just let us know. We’ll come back and correct it at no additional charge.

"My 2nd time to use Case Tree Service ! They removed a 35’ tall x 10” caliper tree, ground the stump very deep, and left no mess at all !
Will re-use again later on pruning other trees as they grow… Very nice owner and operator as well as his assistant. As an Arborist, He cares deeply about the trees and plants by pruning only as necessary with minimal impact to the tree(s) and other surroundings to provide a healthier tree !
Thanx Mr. Case"
